Things You Must Know When You Talk to God – Part 2

In the Old Testament there is a very interesting text that has important lessons for us. Here is: “Jeremiah 29: 11-13 – For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.”

As we saw in our last message, in this text the prophet Jeremiah is telling the people what God has in mind for them and what they should know when they talk with Him. This text also helps us to understand other things that God wants us to know when we talk to Him.

2 – He Listens – The second thing that we should know is that He listens. Sometimes we do not pray, because we are not sure that there is a God out there, but sometimes we do not pray because we think that even if there is a God, He cannot hear our prayers.

Sometimes we think that it is because of us that He will not listen.

Sometimes we think that it is because of Him, that he will not listen. We think that He is too busy with the whole universe, and so many problems that He cannot pay attention to little people like us.

Let me tell you, He wants you to know that He can listen to you, if you are willing to communicate with Him, and follow the right procedures and channels that He made available for you, He will listen to you.

3 – He Wants to Hear Your Voice – The third thing that you should know is that He wants to hear your voice. Probably this is the most challenging aspect of prayer that we have nowadays, the prayer itself, opening our mouth and saying something to Him. We just do not feel comfortable doing that. It seems that we are talking to nobody, or to an invisible person who we are not sure exists.

If you dealt with the first two steps, this one will not be too complicated. But if you have problems with one of the two, then you will have difficulties with this one.

People do not like to pray in public because they do not feel comfortable with what to say, how to say it, and most importantly, what people will think about them.

God wants to hear your voice. Talk to him!

Circumstances will define our expressions before God. Sometimes they will dictate how we pray. Sometimes we will be quiet, sometimes we will be exuberant, sometimes we will just have a normal conversation.

I would like you to try something here that maybe you never did before. I would like you to say a prayer out loud to Him, wherever you are, right now. You can say something like this:

“God, I believe that you are real!

I believe that you are listening to me.

Lord, I want to say that I love you!

In the Name of Jesus, Amen!”

Have a blessed week,

Pastor Lucas
