10. It is a life of witnessing

If we believe that God is real, that He sent His Son to die for us, and on the third day He rose again, we will be compelled to share that with others. The word witness in the original language according to the Theological Dictionary of the New Testament  means: “1. witness to facts in the legal sphere ; 2. witness to facts generally, and also to truths or views ; 4. applications of the use in the sense of witness to truths or views.” In the New Testament the disciples are called to be witnesses of what they saw and heard.

Jesus gave them this instruction before He ascent to heaven: “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth. Acts 1:8.” It is interesting that Jesus promised them the presence and power of the Holy Spirit to enable them to be witnesses. There is a spiritual struggle between knowing the truth and saying the truth. This explains why many Christians, churchgoers, and good people are not able to express their faith. They just can’t.

Paul in his letter to the Corinthians states this: “You show that you are a letter from Christ, the result of our ministry, written not with ink but with the Spirit of the living God, not on tablets of stone but on tablets of human hearts. 2Corinthians 3:3.” We, the Christians are a letter from Christ to everyone around us. This is the witnessing that we are supposed to do. Through you, like it or not, people will learn about God and Jesus. They will look at your words and life. Maybe that explains why more people are not attracted to Christ. What they are reading is not that good.

We should be witnesses of God’s love, justice, mercy, grace, and kindness. People who know us or interact with us in any way should hear, learn, and feel that Jesus is real, and that His love and grace are available to everyone. That witnessing should be done naturally and intentionally.  We should live our lives according to the Gospel of our Lord. We should make an intentional effort to incorporate the message of our Lord in our daily conversations.

My brothers and sisters, for many people around us we are the only letter from Christ. They have never been in church. They do not know anything about Jesus and His love. So the question is: what are people around you seeing and hearing about Christ from your life?

I pray that the Holy Spirit will empower you to be a faithful witness.

Have a blessed week,

Pastor Lucas
