Learning to be the Remnant – 4 – Be prophetic

Even though the remnant is a minority, that does not mean that it should be silent. During the times when the tides changed and we lost our preeminence, we still have a role to fulfill. The remnant does not have power, but it has something else. The people of the remnant have their voice, and they need to make their voice heard. I call it a prophetic voice.

Every generation since the biblical times has had a prophet guiding them through those difficult times. If we are going to be the remnants, we also need to become prophetic. Let me share with you a few things that being prophetic means:

1. Being prophetic means helping people to understand why we got here – To be prophetic means that we will interpret the times. We will explain to the people and the generation what is going on and how we got where we are. In the Bible, the prophets did that job very well. We find in their messages large portions explaining the reasons they were in that particular situation. This is not going to make you win the popularity contest. On the contrary it will bring more problems and opposition, but it still must be done. People need to know what is going on so they can see where they took the wrong turn.

2. Being prophetic means helping people to know the consequences if they do not change their course of action – The present generation needs to know not only what they did wrong, but that if they continue on this path there will be more consequences. What they are doing will not go unpunished. The prophetic voice will make every effort to help them to stop. Many times these circumstances are very painful because we, the remnant people see them coming. The question is, are we going to be able to show that to them? Are they going to stop walking on their destructive path?

3. Being prophetic means helping people to learn how to reconnect with God – We are the remnant because the majority of the people decided to take a path that is moving them away from God. Our mission is not only to tell them why they got here, or how to avoid more consequences, but also to help them to make a u-turn. Our message and cry is to point them in the right direction and help them in the process. We cannot be deterred in our mission. The message must be delivered. People need to know that there is a God who loves them and cares for their welfare, and that message is now our mission also.

As remnants we need to understand that some people, probably most of them, will not change or listen to what we have to say. It does not matter. We still need to be prophetic whether they change or not. Success is not our goal. Our goal is to deliver the message. That is our call.

Have a blessed week,

Pastor Lucas
